Oh, how we love the beautiful sparkles and bubbles of Champagne. Not to be confused with just any other bubbly, Champagne is a sparkling wine produced from grapes grown specifically in the Champagne region of France. Champagne is typically more expensive than other sparkling wines here mainly because it is considered a luxury item.

wine-talk-la-bodega-wine-tasting-food-and-wine
Well-known and well-loved Spanish restaurant, La Bodega, teams up with Wine Talk, Malaysia’s online wine delivery service, to bring you yet again another beautiful evening of wine tasting, paired with delicious tapas and more.
La Bodega Tapas Y Vinos is popular for its numerous and unforgettable Spanish dishes, including the classic Paella, which is the best version I’ve tasted in my life. With branches in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar Shopping Center (BSC), Pavilion KL, Empire Subang and the Shore in Malacca, La Bodega continues to delight us with their appetizing menu and other fun-filled activities.

I enjoy hanging out at La Bodega because of its delicious menu choices, specially these ones that will bring you to an unforgettable gastronomic (if not orgasmic) level! I’m in love with their Gambas Al Ajillo and Deep Fried Goat Cheese.

Wine Talk Hosts First Winemaker Tasting Session featuring Bertrand Sourdais

How often do you meet a winemaker in Malaysia? Wine Talk does it again…an enjoyable evening of wines plus an exclusive preview of new ones from France and Spain for its customers and Wine Club members.

wine_talk_malaysia_tasting_event_with_french_winemaker

It is a rare event for a wine lover in this part of the world to meet the winemakers themselves. If you were in Germany, Australia, France, Spain or maybe Italy, you’d have good chances of meeting the talented men and women behind the art of winemaking process. But here in Malaysia, it would be a memorable occasion to enjoy a wine tasting session with the winemaker himself.
On 18th April 2015, Wine Talk, headed by its CEO and sommelier David Stephan, hosted an indulgent session of wine tasting and Spanish tapas at La Bodega Lounge in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. The tasting session featured 4 different wines from reputable winemaker, Bertrand Sourdais, who flew in to Malaysia that day for Wine Talk’s first winemaker tasting session this year.

Freshly landing an hour before the event started at 4pm, Sourdais was a breath of excitement and enthusiasm as he entered the cozy lounge of La Bodega. And the moment he started talking, one can immediately feel his passion for wines and the meticulous work involved in his winemaking process.

Sourdais guided guests through 4 wines, which were all products of his lifelong passion for wines: Chinon ‘Les Messanges De Pallus’, Chinon ‘Les Pensees De Pallus’, Chinon ‘Le Grand Vin de Pallus’ and Bodegas Antidoto. The first 2 are already available in Malaysia, exclusively at Wine Talk, while the latter 2 wines are expected to arrive in June/ July. Sourdais’s Chinon wines are from France while the last one, the Antidoto, is from Spain.

Bertrand became the 5th generation of the Sourdais Family to manage the estate when he took over in 2004. They are based in the village of Cravant-Les-Côteaux, one of the 2 villages encompassing the Chinon AOC, which produces mostly red wine, Cabernet Franc being the King Grape of the region. Since he took over, he has been slowly converting the estate towards a fully organic approach, and working parcel per parcel (some planted in sand, others in limestone) to make a more drastic selection for the 3 different cuvees. He does this to produce extremely refined and complex wines, which are friendly to drink now but can also withstand some ageing.

Passionate about offering the purest expression of the grapes only, Bertrand works with a very respectful and minimalist approach, growing grapes with an organic method, combined with slow and careful oak ageing.
As a grand traveler and lover of Spanish wines, Bertrand has also been making wines in Spain since the late 90’s, first managing the now highly-renowned Dominio de Atauta, and during this event introduced Bodegas Antidoto. Wine Talk customers and Wine Club members were the first ones to enjoy a glass of this much-awaited wine, together with Chinon ‘Le Grand Vin de Pallus’, which are both arriving in 2-3 months in Malaysia.

4 Wines by Bertrand Sourdais:
Aged in concrete tanks and stainless steel for over 6 months, the grapes come mostly from vines planted in sandy soils – Dark berry and fruity notes combined with capsicum, mild spice and herbal qualities, make this a great value wine – dry and addictive! Perfect with a wide selection of meat dishes, better served slightly chilled. Les Messanges is a pure expression of the Cabernet Franc: dry, fruitful & very friendly.
‘Les Pensées’ (name of a flower which is very present around the vineyards) is the Domaine Trademark-cuvée. It is the one that put them on the World Wine Map a few years ago, getting top-scores everywhere. Sourced from parcels surrounding the estate, planted dominantly on sand-limestone hillsides and pebbly sand parcels, the wine is oak-aged for over 12 months and a further 6 months in tanks.
This is a beautiful bold dry red with great depth, richness to the layers of capsicum, plum, black cherry and redcurrant fruit, accented by notes of bouncy pepper, savory and olive. Perfect with a nice grilled steak!
Coming soon, exclusively available in Malaysia via Wine Talk at www.winetalk.com.my
Sourdais set aside the fruit of his oldest vines to produce just 100 cases of this very special grand vin. Named Grand Vin de Pallus, this wine is a pure expression not only of a blessed terroir and a historic vintage, but also of  Sourdais’ talent and his persistent passion to create a Chinon for the ages. This wine bursts with the essence of violets, combining rich black currant fruit with a bracing fraîcheur (this is a French word meaning freshness or coolness). As one of the guests described, this Chinon has an amazing flavor that “dances around inside your mouth”.  Sounds appetizing.
This Spanish wine is organically made from old Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) vines. Extractions are kept under control and second- and third year 225-litre barriques are used in order to limit oak influence. It combines 70% of old vines with younger vines, bringing a lively touch to the wine, resulting to fruit flavours of red berries, floral reminiscences, a racy acidity and considerable minerality while remaining juicy and dense on the palate.
Bodegas Antídoto is a project designed by Bertrand Sourdais with David Hernando, an agricultural engineer and a former technical director of the winery Atalayas de Golbán, where he worked from 2004 to 2010.  Their objective is to produce fine, unique wines in the Eastern part of the Ribera del Duero region. Antídoto is a youthful project that started in 2009. Though it was not until 2011, the year in which the first Antídoto was made using grapes from the vineyards that they run in Soria, that the project truly gained momentum.

Guests had a great time with Bertrand Sourdais, David Stephan and the rest of the Wine Talk team. Aside from the beautiful wines and Spanish tapas, they also enjoyed special prices to buy or pre-book any of the wines they liked that day.
To the surprise of guests, David Stephan had a lucky draw at the end of the session and gave away a beautiful magic decanter. Sounds interesting? The magic decanter speeds up the process of traditional decanting, which normally takes half an hour or more, by decanting the wine immediately as the wine is poured through. And a lucky guest bagged the prize.

What I think about that Watsons Video Ad

I’ve read mixed reactions on this recent advert by Watsons. What do I think?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5ytoPaBFy4
(Click image to watch full video)
I’ve been so busy these past few weeks and I barely have time nowadays to blog (I’m way behind my lineup of articles, gasp!). Well, work and family come first.
But today, I noticed a lot of mixed reactions regarding this Watsons video advertisement, an ad meant to announce its ‘Hottest Sale’ ever.

Watsons Hottest Sale Ever Video
It’s a simple, short video featuring a girl, with her boyfriend, shopping for things at Watsons then the girl, who looks pretty wearing makeup, says to the cashier that she doesn’t want to buy cosmetics. After which, her face turns plain, pale, colorless while her boyfriend gets shocked and panics a bit.

The cashier insists that she will get huge discounts and places back the cosmetic items in the girl’s pile of products and the girl turns pretty again. The girl says that she still doesn’t want to buy cosmetics, removes the makeup items and she turns pale again. Her boyfriend panics a bit more. Then the cashier insists that with Watsons VIP card, she gets RM5 points. The girl’s boyfriend then grabs her wallet, takes out the VIP card and says that he wants.

I’ve read some of the comments here and there, and it’s a bit confusing. Take note that I am not here to create any form of war against other people’s opinions. I’m just sharing thoughts and some questions.
Some people are appalled, saying that the advert means that women need makeup to be beautiful. To this I ask, isn’t this something that has already consumed the market? I mean, with all the hype and addiction of women to makeup, with all the selfies posted daily and hourly enhanced with pre-shoot makeup and post-shoot filters, with all the beauty bloggers including me who are blogging about makeup, with all the magazines in the world advertising cosmetics, are we saying that using makeup to be beautiful is a damnable statement and those who promote it should be condemned? I guess there are so many makeup brands that we have to condemn if that’s the case.

How many of us would actually go out, meet friends, go to work, go out on a date or important event, without, take note, withouta dab of makeup? Would anyone of us actually dare to spend a month, a week or even a day of meeting people outside the house without even a pat of face powder, lipstick or lipgloss, eyeliner, eye shadow, mascara or blush? None of any of these? Nothing at all? Just wash your face and out you go? Hmmm, sounds pretty impossible to me.
Some get angry, saying that their boyfriends would never react like that. Well, to this, I’d say that the ad did some exaggeration but it could happen in real life. Come on, let’s be realistic here. Nowadays, you see teens and ladies in the mall trying to look like Korean actresses with all the possible makeup, large or colored contact lens, fake eyelashes and more. Of course, with all the enhancements, some ladies would now look entirely different than how they normally would.

So if a boyfriend has never seen a girl without the extreme add-ons, add-ons that she did to herself, and then suddenly he sees her for the first time without them, can we blame him if he looks at her differently? If he continues to love her or even more, then all is good. But if not, then it simply meant that his love was superficial. However, in the ad, the portrayal was not like this. In fact, the boyfriend in the ad was supportive of the girl. He didn’t scream or ran when he saw her without makeup. But let’s remember something here. If we have trained our boyfriends or partners to see us in our enhanced looks, then we have created that picture in their heads. It is not their fault that they expect you to look like a queen when you’ve always shown them that you look like a queen.
Some find it funny. Personally, this ad reminded me of an episode in Ally McBeal where Ling Woo (played by Lucy Liu) was not wearing makeup and when her boyfriend Richard Fish (played by Greg Germann) saw her for the first time without makeup, he screamed in fear. Or that episode in That 70’s show when Michael (Ashton Kutcher) sees Jackie (Mila Kunis) without makeup. His scream was epic. Check it out in this video. Super funny.

So if I were the brand director, would I approve this ad or conceptualize the ad this way? Yes and no. Yes, it is good to have a funny approach. This is probably one of the funniest sale ads I’ve seen. We normally see sale ads done in the repeated boring ways and this one gets a plus for extra effort. But no, I agree with some who say that there could have been a more tasteful way of announcing the SALE event or highlighting on makeup products.
But overall, do I find it offensive? Should it be a reason for me to jump and condemn the brand?
No. And honestly, I just find the ad hilarious.

Happy New Year! Top Product Picks from 2014

It has been a great year and as I welcome 2015, I’m just happy to acknowledge the wonderful products that I’ve tested in the past 12 months…

new-year-fireworks

I’ve chosen the top reviews and products that I’ve enjoyed the most from last year, 2014. And if you’re visiting my blog for the first time, I hope you’ll enjoy the article that you’ve landed on 🙂

top-eye-makeup-nars-eye-paint-dual-eyeshadow
I can’t get enough of NARS and I can’t even choose just 1 eye product from this brand to be my top
choice. Nars eye paint has become a daily part of my eye makeup. It’s just so versatile; works as a liner; works great for smokey eyes; works as an eyeshadow…perfect for me.

Nars Dual Eyeshadow is amazing. It can be used with both wet and dry application, giving more edge on how you build eye effect with just 1 or 2 shades. Every time I use any Nars product, I feel like a pro.

top-new-makeup-brand-launch-in-malaysia
I just recently reviewed its Eyeshadow Palette in Acid Brights and I’m really impressed, considering that this brand sells very affordable products. The color payoff is superb so if you’re looking for more impact with your color play, this affordable eye makeup brand is highly recommendable. They have a great range of lovely lipsticks, too!

top-face-powder-givenchy-loose-powder
Who would have thought that I’d explore loose powder? I’ve been using compact powder and liquid foundation for the past X years but this extremely stylish loose powder is irresistible. Powder texture is perfect and does wonders on the face.

top-lipstick-mac-rihanna-viva-glam-red
I had a total of 3 MAC lipsticks this year (I think) but I loved this one the most. Firstly, I adore the matte red finish of the tube, which is a step sexier than the usual MAC tube. And, of course, the lip color itself is simply kick*ss. Wear whenever, wherever; it adds style to your look. This red shade has shimmer effect and looks even better for evening wear!

top-moisturizer-for-anti-aging
This moisturiser restores elasticity of the skin and stimulates collagen production. It has an unusual color but I love how it works on my face and neck. In just 3 days of using this, there’s a significant result on the texture and suppleness of the skin. It’s a great anti-aging cream!

top-sonblock-product-neutrogena-ultra-sheer
This is my perfect companion for the year in my fight against photo-aging. I love the sheer finish, which also makes it great on the face, even with makeup. It has a non-sticky texture and works for both body and face. Affordable, too!

top-face-mask-glam-glow-youth-mud
Every time I use this mask, I just keep falling in love with it again. It’s not surprising at all that a lot of celebrities are also captivated by this product. The immediate effect on the skin is amazing, right after a 20-minute treatment with this mask. It’s addictive but, of course, I put a 3-day interval between uses. Oh, can’t wait to use it again in the next 3 days!

top-dark-spot-solution-clinique-dark-spot-corrector
Sun exposure definitely takes a toll on our skin eventually. It’s a never-ending battle against photo-aging but with the right product, our skin will have better defences and cure, too! This Clinique product reduced my spots effectively, used together with the brightening cream.

top-fragrance-valentina-perfume-bottle
My husband gave this as a Christmas present in 2013 and I am so in love with it. The fragrance is of floral notes; I love floral notes! And the bottle design is chic, so beautiful to see in my vanity cabinet.

top-beauty-workshop-dior-womens-weekly
I love attending beauty workshops when I get the chance and among the ones that I’ve attended, this is the best one. The event was done efficiently and beautifully. Venue was great, food served was delicious, workshop was fun and educational, guests were treated highly, products are amazing and the Dior & Women’s Weekly team were just amazing.

top-beauty-shopping-site-malaysia
Luxola has really made beauty shopping convenient and fun. I’ve been frequently exploring new brands to try and I still enjoy the feeling of surprise every time I receive a Luxola parcel. The brands they carry are worth exploring, such as SkinInc, Miriness and affordable makeup tools like Sigma and Zoeva. Promotions make Luxola shopping even more irresistible. Service is fast and efficient, why wouldn’t I shop?

top-shampoo-watsons-argan-oil
My hair can get very dry and lifeless so I need hair products that provide damage repair and nourishment. I guess my rebounding sessions have made my hair dry and weak. I love this Watsons Argan Oil hair care range, which is also affordable.

top-hair-accessories-headbands-sereni-shentel
This brand is simply unique, creative and beautiful. The headband designs and styles range from classy, fun, elegant, simple, colourful, surprising and more. The way Sereni and Shentel brought head piece concepts to life is catchy and captivating. It even has collection for babies, too! When I first saw photos of its different collections for babies, kids and women, I adored the brand.

top-female-shoe-brand-charles-and-keith
Charles & Keith has been great on my feet. I love their designs, I love the material and my feet love their shoes. I often get sore feet or some discomfort with other brands but not from C&K. Their shoes are durable, lasts long and stylish. I enjoy wearing wedges and C&K has one of the best collections that change every season. The bags are worth buying, too.

top-kids-shoes-brand-stride-rite
I’m a shoe-aholic and I also enjoy shopping shoes for my son. Stride Rite is the best brand I’ve bought for him. The shoes last very long, even the washable ones after regular washing. It’s very comfortable and my son enjoys wearing them.

top-wine-provider-wine-talk-malaysia
Wine is one of the few addictive things in life that I enjoy and I particularly love Wine Talk when it comes to looking for or buying wines. Wines are easy to find and order online via its website, and the wines will be delivered straight to your doorstep. Simple and easy.

So these are my top picks from 2014! I am looking forward to more products and services to try this year. 2015, let’s make it even better, more exciting and more fun!

Melvita and Women’s Weekly Anti-Aging Workshop

The battle against anti-aging is a never-ending challenge, isn’t it? So when The Malaysian Women’s Weekly announced an interesting workshop last August, I took the chance to learn more about anti-aging…

The free Melvita skincare items in the goodie bag

It’s always interesting for me to attend beauty workshops. I find it worthwhile to discover latest products and to observe how consumers respond to what different beauty brands have to say during such events. It’s also amazing how thirsty we are for advice and knowledge when it comes to techniques, tips or secrets to combat the dreaded ‘a’ word…aging.
How did I acquire a seat for the workshop? The Malaysian Women’s Weekly announced the Anti-Aging session in its August magazine issue. For a minimal fee of RM30, you secure a seat to the workshop, which also comes with refreshments and goodie bag.

The session was held at Lavender Bakery in 1 Utama, at the open air section, where we enjoyed the breeze of a cool morning. Before the session started, Melvita conducted this ‘spin the wheel’ mini-game to get something that addresses aging. I got a small packet of fresh raspberries. So cute.
Refreshments from Lavender were provided, together with a lovely bottle of Esprit Raspberry Sparkling Water. Don’t worry, what you see on my plate here isn’t all of it. I just chose to take a little amount of food.

Workshop items such as sponge, wash bowl and mirror were provided for each guest. We got to sample and apply different anti-aging products from Melvita, ranging from cleansers to beauty oils.

Melvita also introduced their latest skincare range, Bio-Excellence Naturalift, which consisted of 3 products: Youthful Day Cream, Youthful Night Cream and Eye Contour. These can be combined with other items such as beauty oils and floral water.

Melvita Bio-Excellence Naturalift Skincare

This formula offers the protective and firming action of the bud complex, to smooth wrinkles and fine lines. It also contains shea butter, to nourish the skin, and the combination of rye, oat and hibiscus, which together redefine facial contours. The skin is deeply replenished and firmer; it appears visibly smoother.
I think this is a good product to try, especially for those who are looking for organic skincare solutions.
The rich texture of this cream sinks gently into the skin, to nourish and moisturize throughout the night. In addition to the firming and protective action of the bud complex, which smoothens wrinkles and fine lines, this formula also contains nourishing shea butter, as well as evening primrose oil, known to help prevent skin ageing. These ingredients are combined with rye, oat and hibiscus, which help redefine facial contours, to provide intensive regenerating action.
For rejuvenating the skin overnight, it is good to have a night cream, which is normally a bit thicker than the usual moisturizer. This night cream has a lovely texture that is suitable for overnight skin recovery. I like the gentle scent, too.
Formulated with the firming and protective bud complex, this eye cream is enriched with plankton – known for its draining properties, which help to reduce dark circles. It also contains rice powder, for a delicate powdery finish. Rye, oat and hibiscus provide complementary action, filling out wrinkles and fine lines.
This cream has a light texture that doesn’t feel thick or heavy around the eyes. I guess with the rice powder ingredient, it leaves a nice powder finish so you have no risk of developing those oil seeds or milia.

The session ended with a Q&A game where 3 lucky guests bagged gift sets. Too bad I wasn’t listening carefully; I didn’t answer the question correctly, ha!
Ooohhh, and I enjoyed this yummy dessert!
melvita-anti-aging-beauty-skincare-workshop
Overall, the workshop is fine and enjoyable, except for the set-up of the venue. The seating arrangement is too tight, squeezing in around 30 guests. Where I sat, in front, I had to keep asking other guests to stand up so I can access food. I can’t blame the other ladies who were probably rolling their eyes but they also can’t blame me. Well, it was a non-working day for me, I don’t want to be a bitch on a weekend, and so I just keep my cool. The table setting was also tight to conduct self-application of the products. I hope these points will be considered by brands when conducting workshops. Guests must have comfortable space for beauty sessions.
We were given a RM30 voucher to use at Melvita outlets, so it’s like giving back the workshop fee paid to reserve a seat. No worries, you can buy an item with this RM30, such as natural or organic body soaps.

melvita-organic-French-skincare-brand-soap-floral-water-oil
My beauty loot that day:
Organic Rose Floral Water 200ml – RM122.00
Certified organic and fair trade (EFT attested), our floral water is obtained by steam distillation of fresh Rosa damascena petals. Our unique extraction method enables us to obtain a floral water that is particularly rich in active ingredients, making it a naturally powerful formula. With its fresh, delicate scent, our floral water helps to combat dehydration and regenerate the skin.
I love this floral water. I’ve been using it for more than a month now and I’m enjoying the immediate hydration and convenience. It comes with a spray so I don’t really need to use cotton with it. I used to have reaction to rose products but this one proved to be safe for my skin. I spray it on my face in the morning, afternoon at work, and at night.

Eye Contouring Avocado Oil 50ml – RM112.00
100% of the total ingredients from Organic Farming. Very rich in non-saponifiable components, avocado oil is obtained from the flesh of the persea gratissima fruit. An excellent natural anti-ageing treatment, this oil is recommended for dry and delicate skin. Extremely nourishing, it is recommended for the eye contour, the neck and for stretch marks, especially if used with shea butter, which contains non-saponifiables that are remarkably complementary.
I think it’s amazing that this product can be used on the eye, neck and body stretch marks. So I bought one for my mum-in-law. She’s enjoying the multi-function, too.
I also got myself these 2 soap bars:
Lavender Flowers Soap Bar 100g – RM20.00
Vegetable Soap Bar 100g – RM35.00
I am using the Lavender Flowers Soap Bar every morning. The light scent is just nice, unlike other lavender products that often have a strong aroma.
For an organic beauty brand, I think Melvita is worth a try. I signed up as a member as well to enjoy more privileges. My next purchase would probably be a brightening eye serum and another bottle of floral water. I’m now addicted to spraying rose water on my face every day.

flexWorkLife.my Empowers Women with Flexible Work Practices

Balancing time for family and career is never easy…but what if you can get the best of both worlds?

family motherhood

I’ve always believed that women have the toughest jobs in the society. We work hard to build our careers, climb the corporate ladder, be the best of who we are and then we reach a point in our lives when we have to raise or take care of our family, being forced to make difficult choices between career accomplishment and nurturing the family. This applies not only to mothers but to women who will eventually have to choose between succeeding and allotting their time to take care of their aged parents. Women are always expected to be THE caretakers of the family and THE ones who have to sacrifice their jobs. And while men are accepted to have their ‘me’ time or time with their friends, women, more often than not, have to sacrifice all these in favor of time for the family. We sacrifice our time, our careers, our potentials to reach the peak of our success…and don’t even get me started with expectations to stay fit and beautiful after birth or as we age!

work-life-balance-challenge-in-career

I’ve been in the corporate work force for more than 10 years now and I’ve seen many women who had to make the painful choice of giving up their jobs for the sake of having more time for the family. I’m not saying that it’s wrong to choose family over career BUT it’s sad to see intelligent, results-driven individuals leave the organization where their skills and strengths can lead to more successes. It is a known fact; the long hours and demands of a job give us less time and strength to lead a balance between work and life.

How to balance work and life if work eats up all of our time in a day?

It was a very interesting and enlightening afternoon when I encountered Urban Mom’s talk show in One Utama last weekend. Did you know that there’s an organization in Malaysia that recognizes the need among individuals to have a work-life balance? For the first time, I got acquainted with a portal named http://www.flexworklife.my, an organization that aims to build a network of employers and talents to optimise work-life integration while maximising work efficiency and enhancing employee engagement. The talkshow, “I Made A Career Comeback”, featured 2 women who experienced the challenge of giving up their career for a while and successfully managed to regain their fruitful careers. But the great news is, this time around, these 2 women have made a career comeback that gives them flexible working arrangements or flexible hours, giving them the work-life balance they need. Say what again??? Flexible hours? Work-life balance? These are possible?

At the Urban Mom & flexWorkLife.my talkshow, “I Made a Career Comeback” (from left: 1. Ms. Salika Suksuwan, Head, Industry Partnerships, Talent Corporation Malaysia, 2. Ms. Nisa Hidayah, Talent Acquisition Specialist, Standard Chartered, 3. Ms. Pauline Teo, HR Analyst, BASF Asia-Pacific Service Centre Sdn Bhd, and host)
Women have strong potentials and capabilities to make significant contributions in building businesses and economies. But did you know that in Malaysia, the labour force participation rate of women is lower than neighboring countries like Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia?
And why do women stop working?
TOP 3 REASONS WOMEN LEAVE THE WORKFORCE:
1 – To raise a family
2 – Lack of Work-Life Balance
3 – To care for a family member

Should it really be a choice between motherhood/family and work?

Good news is, women (and even men) who find it challenging to return to their careers after some time can now gain support from flexWorkLife.my and organizations who have recognized the need to retain women workers and talents in the workforce. More and more companies are now working towards providing the best working practices for women such as flexible working hours, working from home and even childcare centres at the workplace. I was happy to find out that established companies are now part of this drive to empower women. Here are some of the companies that have started providing flexibility in the workplace:

Whether you are a job seeker or an employer, you will find a lot of support and benefits via flexWorkLife.my and the organizations that have started flexible work practices. There is even tax  incentives support for companies that practice parent-friendly working environment and efforts to retain women in the workforce. This is amazing.

Several times in my career, I did experience sacrificing my job to spend more time with my family, mainly my growing up son. It can be stressful and frustrating when a mother has to sacrifice family time for the sake of holding a job, making an income or working to succeed. Personally, I don’t believe that longer working hours directly translates to productivity (in the same way I don’t believe that those who work overtime are necessarily hardworking or efficient). Flexibility in the workplace is a smart, strategic concept if a company aims to maintain diversity, strong talents and, most of all, the significant value that women play in the organization.

Of course, that day in One Utama wouldn’t end without my son shopping for something…well, he found something at Hamleys…
