Scott’s Launches DHA Gummies for Kids!

Here’s an exciting solution to help your child get enough healthy nutrients for brain development

I’m sure I’m not alone when it comes to a mother or parent’s challenge of getting children to eat healthy food and take vitamins or supplements. It involves testing, convincing, story-telling, rewards and many other possible ways to convince my son to take his vitamins before. I can’t even recall how many different brands and types we’ve tried. Eventually, we found some that he liked and it’s been good.

But as kids grow older, their preferences and tastes also change. Based on experience, it’s more about the taste. It has to be something familiar and natural to them, not something that tastes too “medicine-like”; something fruity is good. Again, it has to be a type of fruit that he knows and likes, maybe orange, strawberry, apple or grapes. But the challenge is not just about the taste; vitamins must contain enough nutrients like protein, Vitamin D and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), a type of Omega-3 fatty acid which is a building block of the brain and eyes.

Scott’s of GlaxoSmithKline has recently introduced a new supplement for kids: Scott’s DHA Gummies! It is an addition to the bestselling product, Scott’s Emulsion Cod Liver Oil, which my son also takes (it has an orange flavour that he likes).

Scott’s DHA Gummies provides the goodness of fish oil without the fishy taste and smell. The challenge that I had with other fish oil kids’ supplements is that it’s too fishy and oily. What I do is to add some apple or orange juice with it so my son can take it without possibly vomiting. It requires more effort and the medicine cup ends up being very oily and hard to wash. The good thing about Scott’s DHA Gummies is that it already combines fruit and fish oil so our kids can take it happily. It comes in delicious orange or strawberry flavours and in the shape of three different sea creatures!

During the press launch held on 30th July 2016 at Aquaria KLCC, GSK General Manager Stacy Wallace explained that this new Scott’s DHA Gummies will help mothers in providing a tasty and enjoyable way for children to meet their daily intake of DHA. DHA helps support normal brain function and development. A well-functioning brain help support cognitive abilities such as learning, attention, memory and problem-solving. Scott’s DHA Gummies aims to provide moms challenged with busy schedules a helping hand when it comes to contributing to the DHA intake of their child.

The packaging says it all, look how fun and attractive these are!

Prices: Pack of 3 pieces – RM0.99, Pack of 15 pieces – RM9.90, Bottle of 60 pieces – RM34.40

Great idea to have pack of 15 pieces, this is perfect for travel!

Children are naturally curious and willing to learn something new and exciting. Together with the launch of  Scott’s DHA Gummies, Scott’s also introduced its ‘Bright Little Explorers’ campaign to raise awareness on the importance of DHA in children’s development and to nurture curiosity and adventurous minds. This includes fun activities in partnership with Aquaria KLCC (my son loves this place) with programmes such as ‘Discovery Hunt’ and ‘Sleep with Sharks’. Sounds exciting!

Follow Scott’s Malaysia’s Facebook page and stay tuned for more updates!

Great Experiences Ahead at Little Kingdom

You and your kids are in for a joyous adventure.

Yummy cakes! Would you believe that these are just deco?

When was the last time you visited Maju Junction or Jalan Sultan Ismail? If it was more than 3 months ago, now’s the perfect time to walk along this busy, lively street in Kuala Lumpur. Coming from Cheras, my son and I decided to take a train ride instead of driving down. Aside from it’s much faster than driving to town, my son enjoys train rides. Ah, convenience, speed and my son’s joy, a train ride to Maju Junction is perfect. Did I mention that the trip only costed RM5.20 two-way?

The trip from Cheras to Sultan Ismail station was fast, roughly 15 minutes on a Saturday morning. From the station, there’s a walkway leading directly to the entrance of Parkson Maju Junction. Very convenient. The guard is friendly and showed me the way to go up to Level 3, where an amazing experience awaits me and my little naughty boy at Little Kingdom.

A magical-themed play land boasting of 40,000 sq.ft., Parkson Edutainment’s Little Kingdom is a first-of-its-kind personalised learning edutainment park. It’s a place where kids and parents experience various realities, from fairy tales to space missions. This play land features technology games, Amazon rides, magical shows, learning workshops and beautiful classrooms that children will enjoy.

Upon entering this kingdom, you’ll immediately feel the “magic”. Here’s my naughty boy wanting to eat that giant red mushroom.

Visitors are welcomed by cobblestone streets, miniature shops with bright signages, colourful walls and dramatic lighting.

Wanna feel like you’re in Nevada?

There are giant, adorable fairy tale books on the streets, stories like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Aladdin and the Little Racing Car. No, these are not for reading but for making the place even more magical and, I guess, for hugging!

Little Kingdom has a magical stage where performances are held everyday. We caught a magic show performance, which kids truly enjoyed.

See how attentive and focused the kids were?
Why it’s great to spend time at Little Kingdom:

1. It’s accessible by car and train. You can choose to drive over, use Uber or Grab, or like me, I prefer to use train! Very fast.

2. At every corner of the theme park are cartoon characters to welcome everyone. You’ll see Little Snow White, Little Pinocchio, Little Tinkerbell, Little Aladdin and more.

3. Augmented Reality Tech allows children to be transported into another world. Perfect for those who love gadget play.

4. Indoor Sandplay Zone allows children to exercise sensory skills and creativity within a 500-sqft play area.

Sandplay Zone

5. Lots of educational games and activities. The kingdom has 6 themed classrooms where everyone can experience a variety of enrichment classes such as music, aerobics, Lego lessons, arts and crafts, storytelling and more. These classes are conducted daily so you can freely visit on a day suitable to you and there will always be several classes to choose from. Wonderful!

6. Personalised Learning Options. You can choose for your child to learn more activities such as piano, vocal, guitar, culinary arts, languages, speech, drama, ballet, martial arts or even yoga.

Little Cinderella Ballroom

7. Little Kingdom encourages parent and child bonding. Parents can freely join their kids in every activity. My son’s favourite was Fantasy Driving, he’s just addicted to cars, trucks, trains or anything that runs on wheels. A great thing about this activity is that parents can join their kids in the car. Yay, I can fit!

8. Its Magical Castle is also an awesome venue for events, parties and special occasions. This hall is just like a palace ballroom where kings, queens, princes and princesses host a ball. See this armed guard and his magnificently detailed shield?

9. It’s endless fun in here, the kids wouldn’t want to leave!

10. Affordable prices. By the way, Little Kingdom is having its Soft Opening Tickets Promotion this month = Get 50% OFF on single entry admission tickets!

Little Kingdom is also running a promotion on its Birthday Party Package, for a limited time at only RM1,800 (normal price: RM2,400) for 30 pax, includes:
  • 2-hour usage of the Magical Castle – party hall
  • Food and beverage
  • Birthday cake in Little Kingdom theme, of course
  • Party decorations
  • 4 Little Kingdom themes to choose from: Little Snow White, Little Cinderella, Little Aladdin and Little Pinocchio
  • 1 Mascot appearance
  • 1 day unlimited access within Little Kingdom, which includes rides, games, activities, soft play area and more

My son seriously didn’t want to leave, haha! He was having a great time at Mysterious Mars and the Mystical Forest.

Little Kingdom is a wonderful place for kids, adults or parents. Whether you want to have a great time with friends, with kids or feel like a child again, this place is great for a whole day of fun!

Before leaving, you can shop for pretty novelty items inside the gift shop!

You know what, I don’t think 1 article is enough to talk about everything in this kingdom. I haven’t even talked about  the upcoming addition to the Little Kingdom family, Talking Tom House, where children can have ‘personalised meals’ by an in-house dietician.

Magic Eye 3D Museum in Thailand

Visiting Amazing Thailand soon? You gotta check out the 3D museum in Hatyai!

My husband, my son and I had a holiday trip to HatYai, Thailand last month. Aside from seeing the elephants, we also took the time to visit the Magic Eye 3D Museum. Although it is a bit far from our hotel in HatYai, my husband rented a car and driver to bring us to the place. We heard that it’s really nice to visit this museum so we might as well check it out while we’re there.
The staff there were very friendly, I guess most places in HatYai have very friendly customer service staff. Food and drinks, by the way, are not allowed inside the hall so they politely asked us to leave them at the guest services. You also cannot wear shoes inside, of course, to help preserve the beauty and quality of the paintings as most of them are also on the floor. White socks are provided for customers.
If you’re planning to visit the museum, bring your fully charged camera phones, digital cameras or DSLRs. The museum is filled with amazing paintings and visuals, you will definitely spend an hour at least of taking photos at different angles. I was disappointed that I didn’t bring my DSLR with me so I had to make use of my phone. It’s not bad but I knew I could have done better, darn!
And here are some of the photos we took:

My son is SpiderMan!

Giant foot!

Must be careful not to fall from this bridge

My son got a chance to shake hands with Mona Lisa

Where’s your milk?

It was fun and, most important is, my son had a great time! So if you’re dropping by HatYai one of these days, be sure to include the Magic Eye Museum in your itinerary. Both selfie and non-selfie lovers will enjoy this place. Be creative and see how far your imagination and photography skills can take you!

Mucus Away with Pureen Clinzo Isotonic Sterilized Seawater Spray

Do you deal with congested nose of your kids or anyone else in the family? This product may be a great companion for you to soften tough mucus in the nose.

My son catches flu or colds every now and then; I guess most kids do. Before my son started going to school, it wasn’t that bad. But going to school gets kids exposed to a lot of other elements and other people so the frequency of having colds, coughs or flu has increased. I do give him regular vitamins to boost his immune system but getting sick somehow cannot be totally avoided. And did you know that there are over 200 virus strains of the common cold? You may be immune to 1 or more but as you get exposed to another type of virus, you will still fall sick.
One of the toughest to deal with among kids who get flu or colds is the mucus inside their nose. Kids don’t know how to blow their nose yet so the mucus gets trapped inside, preventing them to breathe properly and making them extremely uncomfortable, especially when sleeping. My son would cry at night because he feels so uneasy and finds it difficult to sleep. What I do before was to make him sleep on his side while I rub his back to ease him until he falls asleep. But he would wake up again in the middle of sleep because of breathing difficulty. Although I try to clean his nose and remove the mucus, sometimes those things get really hard and stiff. When this happens, it becomes painful for him when I try to remove it.
Then I stumbled across this Pureen spray in one of the pharmacies and decided to give it a try.

Pureen Clinzo Isotonic Sterilized Seawater Spray
Price: RM22.90 for 50ml
100% Natural Sterilized Seawater
Preservative free
Rich in minerals and trace elements from the sea
Environmental friendly
It comes in a tube with spray and plastic cap, packed in a card box (toy car here not included). Size is just nice because you can bring it to travel without fear of confiscation from hand carry luggage inspection. I just find the spray a bit hard to press at times because of its shape.
How Does Pureen Clinzo Work?
  • Gently cleans & clears nasal passageways
- Effectively washes away bacteria that cause infections and simulates nose blowing.
  • Hydrates the nasal mucosa
- Its spray nozzle provides even distribution of Pureen Clinzo to the ensembles of the nose, thus maintain the nose’s natural moisture condition.

Special Features:
  • Safe
- Safety nozzle developed for use in infants, children and adults.
- Anti-reflux valve: preventing the bacterial contamination of the solution.
  • Easy
- Safety ergonomic dispensing system for easy administration.
- Suitable for all age groups.
  • Gentle spray pressure
  • Washable nozzle

When To Use Pureen Clinzo
  • Pollution
  • Cold
  • Allergies And Rhinitis
  • Weather Changes
  • In Combination With Other Nasal Preparations
  • In Air-Conditioning Area
  • In The Airplane
  • During Sports
  • Before Bed

I don’t use it regularly, only when my son’s nose is clogged with tough mucus.

How to Use Pureen Clinzo
  • Tilt the head to one side;
  • Gently insert the end of the nasal tip into the upper nostril;
  • Exert a short, sharp pressure;
  • Tilt the head to the other side and repeat the procedure in the other nostril;
  • Straighten the head again to allow any mucous to drain out;
  • Wipe away any excess with a tissue or blow the nose;
  • Repeat the procedure several times a day if necessary.

My son is very fussy and doesn’t really allow me to insert the tip into his nose to spray. What I do is to spray the water onto a cotton bud that I then use to clean his nose. Using Pureen Clinzo is a lot more effective than just using water to wet the cotton bud. And with Clinzo, I’m also sure that the water is clean and sterilized.
This spray can be used on adults, too, by the way. So if you regularly deal with flu and colds, it might be worth it for you to keep a bottle of Pureen Clinzo in the house. It just makes mucus a lot easier to clean and eliminate.

Guardian Launches Jeju Face Mask Range with Powerful Ingredients From Korea

Wish you had the flawlessly radiant, dewy skin of your favorite K-Pop singers and Korean drama actresses?

Nutrients-infused sheet masks are an essential part of many Koreans’ skin care regime, providing a pick-me-up for common skin problems such as dry skin, uneven skin tone and breakouts.
Guardian, the largest pharmacy, health and beauty retail chain in Malaysia has introduced the Jeju Face Mask Range, which harnesses the benefits of plant-based ingredientsfrom the unpolluted and pristine Korean island of Jeju, that can help you achieve the glowingly healthy skin of your dreams.

Jeju Island is untouched and has been declared a UNESCO heritage site for its natural beauty. The fertile volcanic soil here is rich in beneficial minerals, while underground water sources filtered through volcanic rock provide pure water. These factors and the gentle climate help the flora thrive and concentrate active ingredients that are more potent and purer, making them ideal ingredients for delicate facial care product.
The Jeju Face Mask range comes in four variants for different skin needs. Jeju Lily is for brightening, Jeju Tangerine is nourishing, Jeju Tsubaki is ultra-soothing while Jeju Seaweed is moisturising.
Each single application of sheet mask is gently scented for some relaxing  ‘me’ time and a soothing skin care experience.

How to use the Jeju Face Mask:
  • Apply the Jeju Face Mask of your choice on cleansed face.
  • Massage gently with fingertips to aid absorption of essence.
  • Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes, and perhaps catch up on some of your favorite Korean drama series.
  • For best results the Jeju Face Mask range can be used up to three times a week.

According to Ms. Segolene Defline, Corporate Brand Director from The Dairy Farm Company, Limited, the Jeju Face Mask Range harnesses the efficacy of selected ingredients that are traditionally known and scientifically proven to be beneficial to skin.
“Korean skincare is garnering huge attention and positive feedback from users around the world, especially among Asian consumers. Guardian understands that our customers want the effectiveness of Korean skincare at an affordable price. After much research and development, Guardian selected ingredients from Jeju Island that have been traditionally used and trusted in Korea for centuries,” said Ms Defline.

 Jeju Seaweed for Moisturising
Seaweed is rich in marine minerals and helps in keeping skin moisturised and hydrated. Jeju Seaweed Face Mask replenishes daily nutrients in the skin, promotes skin hydration and locks in natural moisture, leaving skin soft and supple.
If you spend a lot of your time in drying air-conditioned environments, this mask is for you.
Jeju Tsubaki to Soothe and Revitalise
Tsubaki or Camellia flower extract has soothing property. It contains Vitamins A, B and E and protects skin from harmful UV rays and environmental damage. Jeju Tsubaki Face Mask aids in strengthening the skin barrier, leaving it soothed and revitalised.
Jeju Tangerine for Nourishing
Tangerines or commonly known as Hallabong by the Korean, are rich in the skin vitamin, Vitamin C. For healthy and vibrant looking skin, try Guardian’s Jeju Tangerine Face Mask, which nourishes skin with antioxidants, essential vitamins and minerals, for skin that is healthy from the inside out.
Jeju Lily for Brightening
Lily flower extract is used for its natural skin brightening effect as it evens out skin tone and increases skin flexibility. Reach for Jeju Lily Face Mask to brighten tired and dulllooking skin, leaving it radiant with a natural glow.

Fight Travel Sickness with Novomin

Do you experience motion sickness, leading to nausea or vomiting, when you travel?

I’m a very bad traveller. One of the challenges I have when traveling, especially via plane, is motion sickness, leading to nausea AND migraine. Unlike my husband who is used to traveling regularly, I get very tired and weak upon arrival. Even when I take painkillers or migraine pills before, during or after my flight, I just have this travel sickness that takes hours to recover from. And I can’t even get to sleep peacefully while in flight. What a bummer.
Before my flight schedule to Philippines 2 weeks ago, I decided to ask a Watsons pharmacist for travel sickness pills (yeah, how come I didn’t think of this before?) and she gave me a pack of Novomin tablets.

Novomin has anti-emetic properties and is used for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting, such as in travel or motion sickness. It is available in a convenient blister pack and comes in a tasty orange flavour syrup suitable for children 12 years old and below.
How to take Novomin tablets:
Take the first dose 30 minutes before your journey
For ADULTS – take 1 to 2 tablets
Children over 12 years – 1 tablet
Children aged 7 to 12 – half to 1 tablet
For short journey – 1 tablet is sufficient
For long journey – dose may be repeated after 8 hours
Caution: This might cause drowsiness. If affected, do not drive or operate machinery.
How was I during and after my flight? I was great! Seriously, how come I haven’t heard of this travel sickness pill before? I simply took 1 tablet half an hour before my flight while waiting. I did feel drowsy so I just doze off for maybe a few minutes before the flight then during the flight. I also get to sleep for maybe an hour or so. But, man, I didn’t have nausea or migraine, I was feeling normal. In fact, I was too normal that I even had the energy and drive to draft a blog article while enjoying my in-flight meal…

So if you suffer from travel sickness (and if you are not pregnant), consider taking Novomin before your journey to eliminate the misery as this sickness can ruin a potentially perfect holiday with your friends, loved ones or worse, a work-related travel with your boss! Just visit a drugstore and consult the pharmacist.
Children might suffer from travel sickness, too. Novomin also comes in syrup that is suitable for ages 2 to 12 years old. It has an orange flavor to make it easier for the young ones to take. I haven’t tried this yet for my son but I sure will when we travel again.

World Cup 2014: Tips for Using ATMs and Avoiding Credit Card Cloning

Are you traveling to Brazil for the World Cup? Kaspersky Lab shares some tips to avoid ‘card mishaps’ while overseas

If you’ve purchased a ticket to Brazil for the World Cup or even for a holiday, this is definitely something that you should be aware of. Besides, even if you have no immediate plans to go there, most of these tips are applicable even in Malaysia or other countries. After all, better safe than sorry!

If you still haven’t decided how you plan to pay your bills while you’re in Brazil – cash or credit card – it is high time to do so. Kaspersky Lab warns that Brazil has some of the most creative and active criminals specializing in credit card cloning. And, unfortunately, they love to target foreigners who don’t know how to protect their cards when withdrawing money from an ATM or paying for their drinks in a restaurant. But our experts have some useful tips to protect against the most common attacks on ATMs and point of sales (PoS) devices in Brazil.

Avoiding credit card cloning
PoS devices are very common in Brazil – according tothe Brazilian Central Bank, credit and debit cards account for 70% of all payments in the country. Chip-and-PIN cards are accepted by almost all businesses, even by cab drivers.
  • Tips: despite some recent newsabout security flaws in this protocol, chip-and-PIN cards are still more secure and harder to clone than magnetic swipe cards. If you don’t already have this type of card, ask your bank if it’s possible to get one before you travel.

In Europe and North America, many people are in the habit of handing over their cards to staff in restaurants and stores. In Brazil, this can be dangerous.
  • Tips: please don’t do this – you’re presenting fraudsters with a golden opportunity to clone the card, and the temptation is inevitably too strong to resist. Ask the staff to bring the electronic payment terminal to you.

  • Be careful of chance encounters or accidents which might take your card out of reach for a moment. If it happens, check that the card you get back is really yours. If you have any doubts, report it immediately to the bank.

PoS and PIN-pad malware
So-called Chupa Cabra malware and Trojan-Spy.Win32.SPSniffer, a malware family with several variants developed in Brazil and seen in the wild since 2010, affects PoS and PIN-pad devices, both of which are very common in the country. These devices are connected to a computer via a USB or serial port to communicate with electronic funds transfer (EFT) software. The Trojan infects the computer and sniffs the data transmitted through these ports.
The PIN is encrypted as soon as it is entered, most commonly using triple DES encryption. But Track 1 data (credit card number, expiration date, service code and CVV) and the public chip data aren’t encrypted in the hardware of old and outdated devices. These are sent in plain text to the PC via USB or serial ports. Capturing this data is enough to clone a credit card.
·       Please keep a close eye on your credit card statement to check all transactions and inform your bank immediately if you see something suspicious.
·       Wherever possible try to pay using a wireless PoSdevice – they are a bit more secure than the older ones connected to serial or USB ports.
Using ATMs in Brazil
Brazil has 118 ATMs per 100,000 adults according to the World Bank, placing it ninth in the world in terms of ATM numbers. This presents lots of opportunities for fraudsters to install skimmers, also known as “Chupa Cabra” devices.
·       Tips: use your hand to cover the keypad while you enter your PIN, it is a great way to foil most skimmers, which tend to rely on hidden cameras.
·       If you see something that doesn’t look right, notify the bank or owner of the machine, and go somewhere else to withdraw your cash.

“Be cautious while using ATMs or paying with your credit card. Don’t forget that cybercriminals in Brazil perform their malicious schemes all the time. Even during the day you can see them hanging out, wearing flip-flops and beachwear while installing skimmers in a crowded bank. Also remember that it’s far more secure if your transactions happen right in front of you. Be careful of chance encounters or accidents, which might take your card out of reach for a moment. If that happens, check that the card you get back is really yours. If you have any doubts, immediately report the incident to the bank,” said Fabio Assolini, Senior Security Researcher with Kaspersky Lab’s Global Research & Analysis Team.

So to everyone, whether you’re going to Brazil or anywhere, be cautious of how you use your ATM and credit cards. Happy shopping!
